Singles added in February 2023 and Stu’s notes

During the month of February we added a lot of single tracks. Here are some notes on some of them, and below is the complete list.
Boca 45 – (Do It) Fluid.  Straight up jazz dance from Boca 45 aka Scott Hendy. Boca 45 is a DJ and remixer, and yes, he plays a lot of 45s (7 inch singles) but chose his name when he released his solo track at age 45. Trivia: Boca 45 provided a track for the Banksy Movie “Exit Through The Gift Shop” & in 2015 the elusive artist personally requested Boca to DJ with his 45s at the opening night at his Dismal Land Show.
Catherine Graindorge featuring Iggy Pop – The Dictator  weird downtempo with guest Iggy Pop.
Interesting backstory to this, Iggy Pop played two of the Belgian tracks on a BBC show. She sent an email to say hi & bam they collaborated on it. See:
Chris Massey – Hold On feat. Kallula   I dig the acid in the middle. Chris Massey is from Manchester. He is a producer, engineer, remixer, promoter, booker, programmer and radio host. He runs his own label Sprechen and A&R for the legendary Paper Recordings and is also a resident DJ at Manchester’s Sticky Heat, The track is from an EP where the label collaborated with Indonesian artist Kallula, they met while he was on holiday there. The video for this is worth a look
Corrado Alunni – A Different Story [Peppermint Jam Records]  Italian DJ
D-Funk – Night Disco Vol 2 – 01 Do It Right  disco filler loops from surfer, vinyl collector & funk lover.  Sydney-based, British born DJ, D-Funk. This is released on a label that he set up with Perth based DJ Philly Blunt, called Grits & Gravy. Check out the rest of the EP  and his bootlegs, especially this mix of Awesome 3 Don’t Go
David San – Artesano  oddly chilled techno vibe from David Cabrera a tech House & Minimal DJ and producer from Yumbo (Valle), Colombia. available free on bandcamp
David Versace – Saguaro   piano laden house on a Brisbane Australian jazz artist’s debut album Okra. David Versace is an Australian multi-genre keyboardist, composer and producer based in Meanjin, Queensland. Proceeds go towards planting trees and reforesting land back to rainforest in Australia. In conjunction with Reforest NOW. On the album I really like the ambient 45 Minutes. links here
First Beige – Moon Motion (Extended Dub)  dub house from an Australian act based in Brisbane and includes David Versace  The vocal version is pretty good as well
Funky Destination – I like all these tracks from the Eastern Croatian. Feeling Fly and So Damn Funky stand up/stand out. This from an EP released just before he released his latest album which we’re featuring here on Suite Grooves.
Infrasoul – Deep Dive  Chicago style deep disco from German Peppermint Jam label. The artist is from Bogota Columbia! Released on the Sublime Scenes EP. Colombian Producer and DJ Infrasoul who we know is from Allez
KYLIE AULDIST + LINCOLN ROOM – Back For More/Party At My Place  – on the Groovescooter label released to support 2SER 107.3FM in Sydney.  Two boogie disco/funk tracks written & recorded exclusively for Radio 2SER 107.3FM and featuring the sunshine-soul voice of much-loved singer Kylie Auldist (The Bamboos). During the pandemic, Groovescooter & 2SER ran a competition for producers and bands to send in their best instrumental tracks for the chance to have Kylie Auldist provide her world-renowned vocals. Out of the entries we narrowed it down to two great productions, one by the Sydney duo LINCOLN ROOM and the other by production pairing SKINNY DIPP. Kylie then wrote lyrics, top lines and recorded her vocals, before the tracks’ producers went to work on final mixes. ALL SALES PROCEEDS DONATED TO 2SER to help keep this great radio station on air so they can continue to support Australian music.
Loods & Grab – Love Is Real Wow amazing this is on digital now. It’s really expensive on vinyl and rare to find. Again from Newcastle.  seems to be released there two years ago on bandcamp if you read the comments but it’s still up & for sale.
moktar – Al-Duqqi    hectic arabic meets latin beats from Newcastle Australia’s Steel City Dance label.  I like some of the other tracks as well
RUSNAM – Santurated   RUSNAM is a Berlin based producer & singer & songwriter.with Turkish & Arab roots. The track features Azin Zahedi see  a Berlin-based multi-instrumental musician with a background in classical and traditional music. Born and raised in Tehran
Sam Redmore – Jazzdance  Birmingham based artist. I quite like the groove on this one. It used to be his secret weapon when he was DJing out, but has finally decided to release it
Sparkling Attitude – Tutto Perfetto – low slung disco groove with great bass/guitar. This is on Ghetto Disco Records out of Edinburgh. Bandcamp says “pulsing rhythms, funky guitar licks, haunting strings, and catchy vocal hooks”
The Allergies – Mash Up The Sound – this stood out to me over the other disco house tunes in this month’s collection. Reggae House fusion and Dancehall lyrics harks back to early 90’s club classics. Bristol based act.
The Niceguys & Justina Lee Brown – Don’t Let Go. Swiss act teaming with a Nigerian-born singer, known for her African and Caribbean bluesy performances.  Would suggest to check the remix but also their b-side Travel which is strong too
Umbo – Foolin’ Around. Funky breaks. From his website:   Mario Lovakovic aka Umbo is an artist that is on the fast train to success. Hailing from Germany but now based in Croatia his blend of disco influenced funky breaks is being well received all over and has catapulted him into the spotlight thanks to a slew of well-received releases and remixes for the likes of Timewarp Music, Goodgroove Records, Bombastic Jam, Breakbeat Paradise, Rocstar etc.
X-Ray Ted – Somebody Told Me (Extended Mix) – Bristol based DJ and Producer. Bandcamp calls it a “a serious slice of Funk. Fusing rolling breaks with sublime vocals and musical hooks”
